On the upper left, VideoPower GREEN has four tools, the first one is the record tool, upon clicking there would be another five options; full screen, region, audio, web camera, and around mouse.
The full screen would be just basic screen recording. Upon clicking, a confirmation will show on the screen, a prompt to start recording, but before that, you’ll be notified that the microphone is turned on and that basic keyboard shortcuts are available. Clicking Ok means to record and an animated film clapboard will appear showing a countdown. I like the idea that it has a three-second countdown before it records which makes you prepared to navigate quickly to the desired window. Upon closer inspection, I was delighted to discover that I could actually switch on my webcam and show myself on a tiny window while doing screen recording, and I could apply several markers while it is recording, such as shapes, letters, pointers, or even free-hand sketches. Also, options like switching on or off the sound system or mic, and pausing in the middle of video recording is readily available, toolbars like these appear when recording starts and it can be minimized through the minimizing button. On the lower side of the record taskbar, there are four buttons with different functions that are the preview, edit, share, trash, and folder icons. After recording, video files are listed accordingly on the record taskbar which you can preview through the preview icon. Editing the video is also made possible through a separate plugin, where you can add effects, trim, convert video files, etc., Sharing screen recordings is also possible via Youtube, Vimeo, etc., deleting unwanted recordings through the trash icon, and finally clicking on the folder icon to locate clips recorded.
The region is still screen recording but it comes very usefully when trying to omit unnecessary screen characters. When tapped, a guide will appear that will slice the view into four with a magnification view. It automatically detects an area different from the rest of the screen to specify the group. Resolution is varied from high definition to the smallest of resolutions depending on the size of the screen recording of choice upon clicking on a particular region, and just as full screen, a confirmation will show on the screen, a prompt to start recording.
As to basic screen recording, audio recording alone can be done, although it is only an accessory type for the whole application, it’s amazing that VideoPower GREEN cared to segregate alone audio recording option only. Clicking on it, it automatically records with pause and stops buttons and a switch for both system audio and mic.
Now you just want to have a simple introduction to your video presentation with your face on it, VideoPower GREEN added some simple webcam option where you could record yourself and readily be added to your clip. Just simply tap on a web camera, and on the bottom right just click start or stop to record.
I couldn’t get more excited about this last function which is around mouse. Ever encountered video tutorials where the view follows or focuses on where the mouse navigates? Yes, for me it has been the best feature of VideoPower GREEN. It navigates the screen through the pointer so it isn’t a steady view and will make viewers focus on where it goes while screen recording. Available resolutions aren’t limited to desktop/laptop view, it has up until iPhone 8 screen resolution down to iPhone 5 and even iPad. Upon clicking, a confirmation will pop before the recording starts, and a film clapboard will show for the countdown.
After the record tool, a dedicated function for audio and basic screen capture for photos is available. For audio function, it can be on the system or on the microphone, even both, could be done together recorded with the screen. For screen capture, it’s the usual, with a menu for shapes, letters, and sketches ready to be saved and even sent via email. Clicking on it will have similar four sliced views like the region function.
The last tool would be the task scheduler, it is still screen recording but the command is already set. All the functions are available here from screen recording to the resolution, to the use of audio or webcam. It even has the function of shutting down the computer after tasks are done. The difference is that there is a scheduled time for screen recording. You can even have your screen recorded on a daily, set a particular duration, have it repeated again or stopped.
Whether for video tutorials or just for recording a Livestream, VideoPower GREEN is a perfect choice from usability to efficiency, easy to understand, no complicated buttons, for me it delivers more than just enough.
